Manchester City will sell two stars to fund a move for Enzo Fernández

Aug 14, 2026 · 18:00

Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders could both leave City, with the proceeds earmarked for Chelsea's world champion.

Manchester City's midfield could be reshaped within the next day or two. Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders may both depart, and the English club plan to use the money to sign Chelsea's World Cup winner Enzo Fernández. The Londoners want £120 million, around €140 million, for the Argentine.

Rodri could join Barcelona within 48 hours

Reports about Rodri's exit have been circulating for weeks, and events may now accelerate. According to Marca, FC Barcelona want an agreement with Manchester City within 48 hours. The Catalans' opening €50 million bid was rejected, with City asking for roughly €70 million for the 30-year-old. The parties are discussing a package that could be worth €60-65 million with bonuses. Barcelona agreed personal terms with Rodri some time ago, so the deal depends purely on the clubs.

Reijnders could bring in €60 million

Rodri is not the only potential source of income: Al-Qadsiah are in advanced talks over Reijnders. The clubs could agree on a €60 million deal, although the Dutchman's approval is also required. Nottingham are interested as well, so the move is not done yet.

Enzo Fernández could be the big one

If City banked €60-65 million for Rodri and another €60 million for Reijnders, they would have serious room to manoeuvre. Enzo Fernández's future has generated endless speculation this summer, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and PSG all mentioned, but City are now the most serious suitor. Chelsea have set the price at £120 million and, according to reports, that valuation only stands until Friday evening.

Maresca wants Enzo too

Manchester City head coach Enzo Maresca would happily work with Fernández again, which makes the next 48 hours decisive: Rodri to Barcelona, Reijnders to Saudi Arabia, and the freed-up money and squad space going towards the Argentine.
