According to the Spanish press, Arsenal are preparing their biggest offer yet to sign Julián Álvarez, while FC Barcelona may be pushed into the background in the race.
Arsenal preparing a €165 million package
Fichajes report that Arsenal are preparing an official offer for Atlético Madrid. The London club would pay €100 million in cash and would also offer Viktor Gyökeres, whose value is estimated at €65 million. The full package would therefore total €165 million, higher than any previous offer for Julián Álvarez.
Arteta is set on the Argentine striker
According to the report, head coach Mikel Arteta's number one target remains the Argentine World Cup winner. Strengthening Arsenal's attack is a top priority in London, and the club's management believe Álvarez would be the perfect fit. That is why they are willing to include a player in the deal to reduce the cash outlay. Julián Álvarez's future remains shrouded in uncertainty.
FC Barcelona also tried their luck
Atlético Madrid have already turned down several huge offers. According to the report, FC Barcelona offered €100 million, while Real Madrid offered €150 million for the forward - the latter looking more like market manoeuvring than a serious attempt - but Atlético did not want to strengthen either of their direct rivals. Atlético would rather sell the player to a foreign club if the offer reaches €160 million.
Gyökeres could be the key to the deal
Arsenal are hopeful that including Viktor Gyökeres could persuade Atlético's management. The Swedish striker, who scored 21 goals last season, is valued at around €65 million, meaning the Spanish club would not only receive a significant transfer fee but would also gain an instantly available, prolific striker.
