The open city of Crownland – river, mountain, beach and airport, all on one connected map.

No laps, no stopwatch, no rivals. There's a city on both banks of the river, a mountain road up Crown Hill, and a beach where the asphalt runs out. Go wherever you like – the kilometres add up, and you carry on where you left off.

Further down you can pick a vehicle, time of day and controls – or just go with the defaults.

The city is alive: cars, vans, trucks and buses on the streets, the ambulance overtakes with its siren on, everyone waits for green at the lights. Pedestrians and cyclists on the pavement – you can't run them over, the car stops in front of them, and everyone lets people cross at the zebra. The road and car parks are yours, grass and water aren't. When fuel runs low, the yellow marker shows the nearest station. A day lasts six minutes: at dusk the street lights and headlights come on.

At the betting shop, the billiard hall and the poker room you can only play with coins earned in the game – no real money goes in or comes out anywhere. Chances and payouts are shown, there is a maximum stake, and you always keep enough to carry on working. The cinema and other places work either way.
