Lewis Hamilton has been handed a three-place grid penalty at the Hungarian Grand Prix for impeding Oscar Piastri, meaning he will start fifth instead of second.

Lewis Hamilton has been given a three-place grid penalty at the Hungarian Grand Prix, meaning he will start Sunday's Formula 1 race from fifth place instead of second - according to a report from the Hungarian news agency MTI.

Ferrari's British driver Lewis Hamilton, seven-time world champion, had originally finished second behind the reigning champion, with his teammate, Monaco's Charles Leclerc, third. However, the FIA announced late on Saturday afternoon that Hamilton would be handed a three-place grid penalty for impeding Australia's Oscar Piastri (McLaren) during the third segment of qualifying.

As a result, Leclerc will start second, championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) third, Piastri fourth, and Hamilton fifth. The 41st Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix will be held on Sunday at 3pm.
