FC Barcelona have opened talks to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, who could take over from the severely injured Frenkie de Jong.
FC Barcelona have opened talks over signing Lamine Camara. Landing the 22-year-old AS Monaco midfielder became a priority after Frenkie de Jong suffered a medial collateral ligament tear in his right knee, meaning he will be unavailable to Hansi Flick for a long spell.
Sporting director Deco believes the Senegalese international could be prised away for €40 million and has the qualities needed to slot straight into the side. Camara made 31 appearances for AS Monaco last season, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists. "Young, quick, dynamic, and he adapts well to different systems - he could rotate perfectly with Gavi and Marc Bernal," Fichajes expert Javier Parra Pena writes of him.
Camara came through Senegal's famous Génération Foot academy, which has also produced world-class players such as Sadio Mané and Kalidou Koulibaly. He moved to Europe in 2023, joining Metz, before Monaco signed him for €15 million in 2024. The plan to sign Lamine Camara also makes clear that the Catalans will need to sell Marc Casadó, since without doing so they would not be able to fund the new arrival.
