Will Two New Signings Be Enough? Three More Superstars Needed at Liverpool!
Liverpool FC's new manager, Andoni Iraola, cannot complain about a lack of activity: the board has already gifted him two major summer signings. However, according to former club player Stephen Warnock, this squad is still far from being ready to fight for trophies again. The pundit believes at least three more key players need to be signed this summer—and he even named specific star candidates for the attacking line.
A major rebuild is underway at the Reds after key figures such as Mohamed Salah, defensive pillar Ibrahima Konaté (who joined Real Madrid), and Andrew Robertson all bid farewell to Anfield.
Could Barcola or Doué Be the New Salah?
According to Warnock, Liverpool absolutely must dig deep into their pockets to sign a ready-made superstar to replace the Egyptian winger.
"I would be looking at Bradley Barcola. He predominantly plays on the left, but he can play on either wing. The best thing about him is that he is young, yet he has already proven himself at the highest level. He has shown what he can do in the Champions League and for the national team. If he is unavailable, then Désiré Doué would be the other player I'd try to get," the former defender told TEAMtalk.
Rumors suggest that Liverpool has indeed contacted Paris Saint-Germain in recent days regarding Barcola, and reports indicate the French winger would be open to testing himself in England.
Two Vulnerable Spots in Defense
The ex-Liverpool player emphasized that it's not just the forward line that requires immediate attention; the defense needs fixing too:
The Right-Back Position: Due to Conor Bradley's injury record and Jeremie Frimpong's inconsistent form so far, the team needs a player who can immediately perform at a high level on this flank. This is crucial to avoid makeshift solutions, such as dropping Dominik Szoboszlai back into that position.
A Void in Central Defense: Losing Konaté is a massive blow. Although a new talent has arrived in the form of Jérémy Jacquet, Warnock believes the youngster is not yet fully prepared for the immense pressure of the Premier League. Therefore, signing an experienced center-back is essential for Iraola's system to work across all competitions.
Who Has Arrived So Far?
The Liverpool board has already spent over €100 million in the summer transfer market. Andoni Iraola's squad has been bolstered by two new names:
Player/Former Club/Transfer Fee/Position
Jérémy Jacquet Stade Rennais ~€63.6 Million Center-Back
Víctor Muñoz CA Osasuna ~€40 Million Forward / Winger
The foundations have been laid, but looking at the list of departures, one thing is clear: if the Reds want to keep pace with the elite, the club's hierarchy will need to reach into their pockets again before the end of the summer.
